Understanding Companion Care vs. Personal Care

Arguably, there is nothing humans crave more than love. However, when we reach our later years in life, we don’t just want someone to care for us – we need it. Are you the caregiver of an older adult? If so, you’re well aware of the toll it can take on both your physical and emotional well-being. Naturally, you want the best for your aging loved one. But that doesn’t mean you have the time and energy to be a full-time care provider.

That’s where professional in-home care services come in! At Senior Homecare by Angels, we pride ourselves on providing that absolute best support services to elderly individuals, persons with disabilities and adults in rehabilitation. To suit the specific needs of each our clients, we offer a variety of compassionate client and caregiver-centered care services. They include Companion & Personal Care.

Companion Care.

As we get older, loneliness and isolation become more common problems. “In 2023, 39% of Canadians 65 years of age and older reported feeling lonely at least some of the time based on the Canadian Social Survey,” reports Toronto’s Women’s College Hospital, “In addition, as many as 41% of Canadians aged 50 years and older are socially isolated, according to the National Institute of Ageing’s inaugural 2022 Ageing in Canada Survey.”

The Companion Care provided Senior Homecare by Angels offers older adults a carefully selected, certified caregiver. We call this special individual an “angel”. Our angel will visit the home of her client three to four times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each visit will last between three and four hours. During this time, our specially-chosen caregiver will offer joyful companionship to your elderly loved one.

Friendly and engaging conversations are normal parts of each visit. However, she does more than just keep your family member company. Happy to help around the house, our angel can perform such duties as light housekeeping, changing the bed sheets and preparing healthy meals. Each visit is reported in our Family Room portal to keep you and your family abreast of what’s happening in the home.

Personal Care.

There are many seniors who contend with physical disabilities in addition to emotional challenges. “For seniors (aged 65 years and older), pain-related (68%), mobility (63%) and flexibility (59%) (are) the most common types of disabilities,” informs Statistics Canada, “Having multiple disabilities can lead to more accessibility challenges. Especially as individuals age, they are more likely to experience a higher number of co-occurring disabilities. Nearly half (42%) of seniors with a disability had four or more co-occurring disabilities.”

In cases where older individuals require both companionship and help with their daily activities, the Personal Care services offered by Senior Homecare by Angels are ideal. With this service, one of our angels will visit your elderly loved one five times a week from Monday to Friday. Each visit lasts between four and five hours. In addition to warm and caring interactions with your aging family member, our angel will assist with bathing, dressing, toileting and other hygiene assistance.

In addition, your loved one’s caregiver can complete light housekeeping, do the laundry, change the bed sheets and ensure the home is safe from any hazards. As well, she can assist with medication reminders and organize pill boxes. If you need breakfast, lunch and dinner made for your loved one, our angel can do that too. Grocery shopping among other errands can also be completed for her care recipient.
